Overview

The Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement, through the Children, Youth & Social Services Cluster, is seeking an Intermediate UX Designer for an onsite engagement in Toronto. The successful consultant will be responsible for designing intuitive, user-centered digital experiences across a range of government products and services. This role involves end-to-end UX work — from research and ideation through to prototyping, testing, and production-ready design deliverables.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create effective, user-friendly, and visually appealing interfaces for web and mobile applications
  • Design the overall functionality of digital products to ensure a great user experience, iterating based on user-testing outcomes
  • Design user interfaces for various projects including digital displays, publications, media, and other creative materials
  • Take a user-centered design approach, rapidly testing and iterating on designs throughout the product lifecycle
  • Conceive and conduct user research, interviews, and surveys, translating findings into sitemaps, user flows, customer journey maps, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes
  • Design and deliver wireframes, user stories, user flows, user journeys, mockups, and prototypes optimized for a wide range of devices and interfaces
  • Facilitate the client's product vision by researching, conceiving, sketching, and prototyping experiences for digital products
  • Identify design problems and devise elegant, accessible solutions aligned with user experience best practices
  • Make strategic design and user-experience decisions related to core and new functions and features
  • Gather and incorporate user feedback to configure and refine existing interfaces
  • Leverage AI-powered design tools such as Figma AI, Galileo AI, Google Analytics Intelligence, and Microsoft Copilot to generate design concepts, analyze user behavior, and accelerate UX decision-making
Must-Have Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience leading the design of complex digital services from concept to production
  • Expert knowledge of information architecture, interaction design, user-centered design processes, and user experience principles
  • Proficiency in Figma and Axure for design and prototyping
  • Demonstrated experience developing key design deliverables including user flows, wireframes, mock-ups, clickable prototypes, presentations, and reports
  • Experience conducting user research, usability testing, interviews, and surveys
  • Experience designing online services to be accessible by default
  • Proficiency with digital collaboration and web conferencing tools
  • Hands-on experience with AI-enabled design and research platforms, integrated into the UX lifecycle to improve efficiency, personalization, and data-driven design outcomes
  • A digital portfolio demonstrating UI/UX expertise in designing complex online services (must be submitted with application)
Nice-to-Have Skills
  • Knowledge of network security and network protocols
Work Environment

This is an onsite role based at 5700 Yonge Street, Toronto. The consultant is expected to work approximately 2–3 days per week in the office from the start date through to March 31, 2027. A Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) security clearance is required. Shortlisted candidates will be required to present their portfolio during a 10-minute interview segment. This is a Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement engagement; public sector experience is an asset.
