The Applications Architect – Senior will lead the architecture and technology strategy for enterprise platforms within the Labour and Transportation Cluster. The role involves defining and implementing cloud-native, microservice-based architectures while ensuring alignment with Ontario Government standards and enterprise governance frameworks.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the overall application architecture and technology strategy across enterprise initiatives.
  • Design and implement cloud-native solutions leveraging IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS models (Azure preferred).
  • Architect microservice-based solutions using container platforms, including Tanzu.
  • Define and deliver architectural artefacts aligned with OPS Zachman Enterprise framework and governance standards.
  • Provide solution option analysis and technical leadership across hybrid cloud and on-prem environments.
  • Ensure secure, scalable integration using REST APIs, API Management, and modern networking designs.
  • Guide Agile delivery teams and support DevOps automation, CI/CD, and blue-green deployment strategies.
  • Lead architecture reviews and provide expert advice to project teams, stakeholders, and governance bodies.
  • Provide knowledge transfer and post-implementation support to Ministry staff.
Must Have Skills
  • Extensive experience designing and implementing public cloud solutions (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS), preferably Azure.
  • Demonstrated leadership in microservice architecture and containerized platform delivery (Tanzu experience preferred).
  • Strong experience working as an architect within Agile delivery methodologies.
  • Experience with mid-tier and mobile platforms.
  • Experience with operating systems such as Windows and Linux.
  • Experience with database technologies including MS SQL, Azure SQL, and PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with API Management, REST APIs, and secure cloud networking design.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and enterprise governance experience within Public Sector environments.
