Applications Architect
Overview
The Government Services Integration Cluster, under the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement, is seeking a Senior Applications Architect to join their team in Toronto. In this role, the consultant will be responsible for defining and overseeing the overall structure, logical components, and interrelationships of complex, distributed enterprise applications. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping application architecture across cloud and on-premises environments within a large government technology organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Define the structure and relationships among applications, including identification of reusable components, quality metrics, software layering, and interface specifications
- Develop, implement, and manage cross-platform applications within large and distributed environments
- Monitor system interactions between components at various levels of abstraction and define source code limitations and requirements
- Define interactions between application packages, databases, and middleware systems
- Design and document application architectures across multiple platforms, operating systems, and environments
- Develop enterprise architecture deliverables including models, documentation, and functional/technical requirements for new and existing business solutions
- Lead multi-tier application infrastructure design, documentation, and configuration for medium to large corporate implementations
- Design, develop, implement, and maintain large complex applications, workflow processes, and dynamic forms
- Apply structured methodologies for the design, development, and implementation of applications in large systems environments
- Use data and process modelling methodologies, techniques, and tools including metadata structures, repository functions, and data dictionaries
- Stay current with emerging IT trends and apply this awareness to architecture decisions
Must-Have Requirements
- Proven experience with on-premises and cloud connectivity using MuleSoft or similar integration tools
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (Azure or AWS), including Cyber Security and Enterprise/Solution Architecture
- Proficiency in Java and Microsoft .NET development
- Experience with SQL Server, Oracle, and cloud databases including structured and unstructured data stores (SQL MI, Azure Blob, Cosmos DB, etc.)
- Experience designing and implementing REST APIs and application integrations, including Web and Lite Apps
- Experience with Azure, Dynamics 365, and the Microsoft Power Platform
- Demonstrated ability to develop application models and architecture designs
- Experience with custom Web API development using ASP.NET, .NET Core, Entity Framework, and Azure SQL
- Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipeline implementation
- Experience with Agile methodologies including Kanban and task board management
- Experience with large-scale government or enterprise applications
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Prior experience working within the Ontario Public Service (OPS) or broader public sector
- Knowledge and understanding of object-oriented analysis and design techniques
- Familiarity with Ontario Government Enterprise Architecture methodologies, processes, and practices
- Knowledge of Information Management principles, concepts, policies, and practices
Work Environment
This is a fully onsite role based at 222 Jarvis St, Toronto, five days per week. No security clearance is required. The team operates using Agile methodologies, and the consultant will be expected to collaborate closely with cross-functional technical and business stakeholders throughout the engagement.
